Polyquaternium-7
A gentle conditioning polymer that detangles, softens and smooths, the reason hair combs through easily.
What it is
Polyquaternium-7 is a positively-charged (cationic) conditioning polymer. Because damaged hair is negatively charged, PQ-7 is drawn to it, laying down a light conditioning film that improves wet and dry combing, softness and static control. It is a workhorse of modern, sulfate-free conditioning.
How it works
Deposits where needed
Its cationic charge draws it to damaged, negatively-charged areas, conditioning them preferentially.
Detangles and smooths
The film it forms reduces friction, so hair detangles easily, feels softer and resists static and frizz.
The evidence
Polyquaternium-7 is a long-established, well-tolerated conditioning agent, central to smooth, easy-combing modern haircare.
A dependable conditioning polymer that makes hair manageable, quietly essential rather than headline-grabbing.
