Malic Acid

INCI: Malic Acid · AHA (pH adjuster)
Balances pHSmooths cuticleAdds shine

A fruit-derived acid used to set haircare at the slightly acidic pH that keeps cuticle scales flat and shiny.

What it is

Malic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid found naturally in fruit like apples. In SENSCERA haircare its main job is pH: hair looks and behaves best at a slightly acidic pH (around 5), where the cuticle scales lie flat. Malic acid gently sets the formula to that target.

How it works

Keeps the cuticle flat

At an acidic pH the hair's cuticle scales stay tightly closed, which reduces friction and tangling and makes hair reflect more light, that is what shine physically is.

Refreshes the surface

As a mild AHA it helps keep the hair and scalp surface clear of dulling build-up.

The evidence

The role of acidic pH in keeping the cuticle flat and hair shiny is well established; malic acid is a common, gentle way to reach it.

Works well with

Works across Tricelleon by creating the acidic environment its proteins and conditioners perform best in.

Who it's for

All hair types; especially dull, frizzy or rough-feeling hair.

Worth knowing

A small pH-setting ingredient with an outsized effect, flat cuticles are the physical basis of shine and smoothness.
