Sodium PCA

INCI: Sodium PCA · Sodium Pyrrolidone Carboxylate
Replenishes NMFHydrates

One of the skin's own Natural Moisturising Factors, replenished directly, hydration the skin already knows how to use.

What it is

Sodium PCA (the salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid) is one of the most abundant components of the skin's Natural Moisturising Factor, the built-in mix of water-binding compounds inside surface skin cells. Age, sun and over-cleansing deplete NMF; Sodium PCA restocks it.

How it works

Restocks NMF

Rather than imitating the skin's moisturising system, it replenishes it with a molecule the skin naturally uses, a strong humectant that lives exactly where hydration is needed.

Binds water efficiently

It is highly effective at attracting and holding water in the outer skin, keeping the surface supple.

The evidence

Sodium PCA is a well-established, skin-identical humectant, valued precisely because it replenishes a component the skin makes itself.

Works well with

A core NMF-replenishing member of HydraMatrix-6, working with hyaluronate and betaine.

Who it's for

All skin types, especially dehydrated or mature skin where natural NMF has declined.

Worth knowing

Restocking the skin's own hydration system tends to feel more natural and comfortable than piling on foreign humectants.
