Betaine

INCI: Betaine · Trimethylglycine
HydratesSoothesProtects cells

A plant-derived osmolyte that hydrates while protecting cells against water stress, and softens harsh surfactants.

What it is

Betaine (trimethylglycine) is a naturally-occurring osmolyte, typically sourced from sugar beet. Osmolytes are molecules cells use to manage their internal water balance under stress, which is why betaine both hydrates and protects.

How it works

Balances cellular water

As an osmolyte it helps cells maintain healthy water balance under environmental stress, heat, dryness, stabilising hydration rather than just adding it.

Softens cleansers

In cleansers it reduces the harshness of surfactants, making a wash gentler and less stripping, one reason SENSCERA cleansers feel mild.

The evidence

Betaine is a well-established, gentle multi-tasking humectant and cleanser-softener, valued for hydration and its cell-protective osmolyte behaviour.

Works well with

Works throughout HydraMatrix-6 and pairs naturally with amino-acid cleansing systems.

Who it's for

All skin types, including sensitive, especially anyone who finds cleansers drying.

Worth knowing

A quiet workhorse that makes both leave-ons and cleansers gentler.
